Singing makes the miles go by faster

Wow. I feel like a new woman. After my post about the headache on Thursday, things just went downhill. I clearly did not make it to my scheduled swim that evening. I woke up on Friday morning with a THROBBING headache. My forehead and head felt like I had been crying and crying for hours. I called in sick to work YET AGAIN, and this time took the whole day off. James came over to keep me company, and all I managed to do was lay on the couch and watch TV.

I think it has to do with the fact that I also "that time of month", for the first time in four months. When I went off the pill, in February, my period just stopped, and even though my blood work came back all normal, still no aunti flo. So the Dr. gave me hormones to make her come. I'm thinking this had to do with some of the pain I was feeling.

But with a whole day of rest, I was feeling really good by Saturday. I still took it easy, cause I didn't want to risk getting my headache back. So to get my activity for the day, James and I had a little Bocce Ball competition.

Obviously, I am a Bocce Ball Champion. :)
Between Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Sat, I took four days off of running/working out. I hate taking that much time off, and felt like I needed to get back to being full throttle asap. Does being sick count as exercise? haha.

I was so glad I felt awesome by Sunday, because I had planned my last long run before my 15K race this weekend. I was slightly nervous about how my body would react, but the run went great! It's amazing that a 9+ mile run can feel 10X less painful than a 4.5 mile run.

James and I ran 9.25 miles, and the good weather, the good company, and the good mood made the run enjoyable. Singing out loud made the miles fly by. I did my best impersonation of Flo Rida as I sang "Low" and made sure I "turned around and gave that big booty a smack," I took rides on Disco Sticks, per Lady Gaga, and rocked out to Stevie Ray Vaughn. Another thing that made the miles go by was pretending the cars going by were barrels of waves, whales, sea gulls, etc. We kept pretending the wind was the ocean breeze in Maui, and kept talking about all the things we wanted to do in Maui, like Stand Up Paddle Surfing, and jamming to live music.
Why would we pretend to be in Maui?

Becasue James and I just signed up for the Maui Half Marathon in September!!!! I am soooo stoked! It will be a vacation and race in one, and so stoked that James will be running it with me. It will be my second half, and James' first half. It is going to be awesome. I can't wait!

It was a great run, with very minimal damage. My legs aren't tired at all today. I think I will be able to rock the 15K this Saturday. My only goal is to ENJOY IT! :) It will be my first race as 24 year old.... it's birthday week for me! :)

  4. I'm glad you're feeling better! Being sick is just awful, and I hate thinking about all the workouts I'm missing when that happens, but sometimes you just need a rest. Looks like you're body was thanking you, way to crush that 9 miler! Birthday week in Maui celebrated with a run?! I'm jealous! My birthday is in September too and I was thinking of going down to Virginia Beach to do the Rock n' Roll half, but Maui sounds SO much better!
