Recommendations?

Rain, rain, go away, come again when I'm not here....
I can't remember the last time it rained here, so I guess there's not too much to complain about. Heck, it hardly counts as rain, it's more like really thick fog/mist; like the water droplets are just kind of suspended in the air. Gotta love coastal weather. However, this kind of throws my workout plans for the evening off a little bit. There's no way I have enough balls to head out on a 15+miler on the bike by myself in the rain. Nope. I admit I am a wuss. This means I will probably have to go to spin class. That means three consecutive days at the gym. They are going to start thinking I have no life, haha. It's funny though; now that I've been going to the gym for 6 months now, I see the same exact people every time I go. I don't know their names or anything, but I just think it's funny that we have the same exact gym schedules. I guess they don't have much a life either, haha, jk.

Here's what went down last night:
Wednesday Workout
20 min elliptical/treadmill warmup
Standing cable rows (75 lbs 12 reps X 3 sets)
BOSU Ball plank variations (3 sets)
Cable Triceps push downs (50 lbs 12 reps X 2 sets)
Bent over row (25 lbs 12 reps X 2 sets)
Side squats for hip abductors (2 laps across gym)
Biceps curls (10-12 lbs, about 40 on each arm)
Cable machine abs that PT recommended (20 lbs, X 2 sets)
Hamstrings
Hip abductor things PT recommended
Triceps extension (15 lbs, 12 reps X 2 sets)
Shoulder raises
+things I've forgotten about
FOAM ROLL while reading Wired Magazine

All in all, it was a painless workout. I've been kind of toning down my strength training; going to the point just before muscle fatigue. Ok, maybe like 2 steps before muscle fatigue. I used to be all into doing heavy weights, so I feel like gym time is getting kind of boring, and I feel like I've stopped seeing any results. I'm just doing enough to keep my muscle tone, without making myself too tired/sore to run. Eh. Soon enough, I will be a lean mean running machine!

All right now ladies, I desperately need your help. As I mentioned yesterday, I fail miserably at all things girly. BUT, I have a couple of things I need advice on.

First; Shoes. Or Sandals to be exact.
Do you know of any cute/stylish, yet COMFORTABLE and supportive flip flops out there? I've given up on my havianas, and $3 Old Navy slippers, but living in CA, I NEED sandals! And with the upcoming trip to Hawai'i, I know I'm not gonna be wearing my sneakers everywhere. If you know of any brand/online store/style that is not going to hurt my knees, please let me know. I really don't know of any shoe brands other than Asics, Saucony, Nike, etc, so I don't even know where to start looking. Thanks!

Second...um...this is totally embarassing, but absolutely necessary. Whiteheads. Ick. I know. But for some reason, they've reared their ugly head. I haven't had a skin care routine for years now, so I don't know how to deal. All this running and being outdoors is wreaking havoc on my skin, esp my cheeks. It's my own fault for not owning face soap, working out with makeup on, forgetting to use sun block, etc. I am going to stop wearing any face make up until this problem goes away, and use SPF 30 moisturizer every day. I am also going to the drug store to stock up on an arsenal of products.
What Scrubs/Soaps/Ointments/Moisturizers would you recommend?

Guys, please feel free to advice as well :) I know runners have a wealth of information, and I would love to tap your brains for some wisdom. I seriously would LOOOOVE any and all advice since I really have NO fashion sense, and the beauty aisle make me scratch my head in confusion.

Thanks in advance runners!!! and Happy Thursday! Home stretch before the weekend.....

  1. Ok - #1 I have a pair of reef flops and LOVE THEM! And they have bottle opener on the bottom :) Best thing ever!!

#2. I use Proactive and love it. They have a bunch of stuff - but the face scrup is all I use. I've been using it for over 5 years now and zits/whiteheads be gone. (man - I sound like a freaking infomercial!!)

Nice workout! I need to get back into lifting!

  2. I just got some after the run flip flips from Rider and I love them. I wore them after my 18 miler last friday to Islands of Adventure and Universal on Saturday and my legs while a little sore, held up SOOOOOOO much better than I thought they would. The flops feel like a little massage for your feet the whole time you wear them. Very supportive.

They don't show the exact ones I got but look similiar to the DRY WM II.

Now on to face wash... I use St. Ives apricot scrub sensitive skin. It's got the gritty stuff in it that makes my skin feel exfoliated and clean. I get sensitive skin because I have it and so far have never had a problem with it. I just pick it up at Target or Walgreens.

Good luck! Great workout yesterday girl!

  3. Great workout!! I'm going to steal a few ideas :)

Have you tried the FIT FLOPS? I've heard they are awesome. And they are suppose to be good for you, too.

I started using Derma-E for my face. It's all natural (and based in CA) - and smells great. I started using about 1.5 months ago and my face has never looked better (knock on wood). I also like the St. Ives Scrub - with sacylic acid.

  4. Flippy floppys: Adidas. Perfect for post run. They are super squishy. Go here: http://www.shopadidas.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2818926&shopGroup=R&cp=2019628.2039726.2020255&colorId=

As far as the pimples are concerned. I so feel your pain. I get them from wearing make-up and then quickly taking it off and then sweating over what I missed. Ew. I used Clean and Clear Persa Gel as a spot treatment and it dries those suckers right up.

    Great workouts yesterday! Go you!

  5. Nice workout! I basically quit doing any sort of weights all together because it was screwwing up my energy level for running - that's a good idea to do 'just enough' and not push it TOO much.

I'm guily of wearing Old Navy $3 flip flops, so I'm checking out others' advice here too!

  6. I have Reef sandals, but i ordered Bite sandals that fit my orthotics. Not as stylish, but sooo heavenly to put on after a run, and I read really good for posture, especially runners. if you see a chiro, they usually have a catalogue of sandals that you can fit orthotics into.

  7. I'll have to go with almost everyone else who says the St.Ives apricot scub is awesome, it's really the bomb-dot-com. I usually just use clean n clear or something like that after also, gets all my makeup off and such. I use cocoa butter for my face lotion.

As for sandals, I'm just an american eagle sandal wearer. They definitely aren't good for my legs/feet, but I'm lazy and hate spending money so AE sandals they are!

I think I need to hire you as a trainer so I can be a lean mean running machine too!

  8. Ha, I rock a pair of black nike sandals, EVERYWHERE. So I'm not much help in the foot dept. And the skin department??? I just started breaking out like a crazy person too, so I'll have to lurk on your comments to get some ideas. My big thing is to not be too lazy to wash my face post going out on the weekends. Shame on me.

  9. I have a bad habit of wearing cheap flip flops too. I did read about recovery flip flops that I might have to check out.
I am too on the quest for something good to clear up my runners skin! I saw a commercial for proactive body wash---I might have to check that out. Our mall has a proactive vending machine thing! lol

  10. I have a pair of OP flip flops that are super squishy just like the ones B.O.B. recommended. I've had them for about 6 years! I've worn them a lot and they're still in really good shape! They're soooo comfortable and they're all black so they look pretty simple.

As far as skin care, I have problems too...especially right now. Ugh! I would really recommend not over doing it with all the different products for skin care. You definitely don't want to strip your face of all the oils that it needs. I like a foamy cleanser and Garnier Nutritioniste Moisturizer with SPF for everyday use. Once a week, I like to use a scrub such as St. Ives Apricot Scrub. I don't use any kind of astringent or gels that are left on my face since I've found them to be too harsh. Everyone's skin responds dramatically different from the next so it's completely trial and error. Total Beauty is awesome for product reviews for all things beauty related.

  14. I love reef flip flops. They are comfy and perfect for walking. They are really nice.

As for the face wash, i use velocity by Mary Kay. its amazing and i love it. normally i don't have any issues with acne *knock on wood* but when i was in HS, i did and i used proactive. I loved that stuff-- but after a while i think you build up an immunity to it or something cuz it quits working.

let me know what you figure out!
